Anne Frank: A Story for All Time

In honor of what would have been Anne Frank’s 96th birthday this June, join us for two short films, "Anne" and "The Anne Frank Gift Shop," that each explore questions about how to position the most recognized story from the Holocaust in a changing world.

Time & Location

Jul 29, 2025, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Holocaust Museum LA, 100 The Grove Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90036, USA

About

ANNE is a film that aims to explore the nuances within cultural representation, in addition to the importance of why stories like Anne Frank’s continue to be told. Is it more important to accurately “be” something, or to accurately “represent” something? Is “authenticity” synonymous with perception? And as storytellers, how do we define the difference between empathy and appropriation? These are the questions raised through the eyes of two women both “right” for the role.

Is there a wrong way to talk about the Holocaust? That’s the question at the heart of The Anne Frank Gift Shop, a dark comedy short by writer Mickey Rapkin about antisemitism that packs a vital and timely message. When a high-end design firm presents its plans to reimagine the gift shop at The Anne Frank House, the company's overt appeal to Generation Z sparks a debate about collective trauma, the Holocaust and tote bags.

A post-screening Q&A will feature:
