About

Sixteen members of the Frishberg family hid for two frightening years in the attic of a peasant's home in rural Poland, and then spent most of their lives afterwards trying to forget what happened. Yet their children somehow knew what their parents went through. Deciding to confront her personal demons, filmmaker Debbie Goodstein went back to Poland with her aunt and a group of cousins to meet the woman who sheltered her family. Accompanied by her Aunt Sally Frishberg, who was one of the sixteen, and five of her cousins, Goodstein recorded this haunting, and ultimately liberating, voyage of discovery. This film is a journey into the past and a story of family triumph.
This program will feature a post-screening talkback with Debbie's relatives.
