From there, Ernest, his brother and father were sent to Warsaw to clean up the aftermath of the Uprising. Eventually, he was separated from his brother and father. He was liberated by American troops in 1945 and after the war, he reunited with his surviving brother. Ernest immigrated to the United States in the 1950s and worked for Douglas Aircraft.
