Henry Slucki was born in 1934 in Paris, France. After Nazi Germany's initial occupation of France, Henry and his family resettled in the south of France.

After Nazi Germany invaded the entire country in 1942, Henry's parents eventually made the difficult decision to send him to the United States as part of Eleanor Roosevelt's initiative to save refugee children. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles, where he became a professor of behavioral sciences.
