Henry Slucki was born in 1934 in Paris, France. After Nazi Germany's initial occupation of France, Henry and his family fled to the free zone in the south of France.

After Nazi Germany invaded the free zone in 1942, Henry's parents were forced to make the difficult decision to part with him for his own safety. They managed to send him to the United States as part of Eleanor Roosevelt's initiative to save refugee children. After the war, Henry moved to Los Angeles, where he became a professor of behavioral sciences.
