Yona was five years old when Nazi Germany invaded her native Krakow, Poland. Soon after the invasion, she fled eastwards with her parents and extended family. While her parents continued towards Siberia, Yona was left in the care of her grandparents.

About the Event

When Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, her grandparents secured her false papers. She lived on a farm under this false identity for the rest of the duration of the war. After being reunited with her parents Yona lived in Paris and eventually settled in Los Angeles where she worked as a fashion designer.
