Join youth poets from Get Lit as they recite poetry from I Never Saw Another Butterfly, a compilation of poems and drawings by children caught in the tragedy of the Holocaust. Attendees are also guided by a teaching artist to create their own poetic reflections. Fifteen thousand children under the age of fifteen passed through the Terezin Concentration Camp. Fewer than 100 survived. In these poems and pictures drawn by the young inmates, we see the daily misery of these uprooted children, as well as their hopes and fears, their courage and optimism.

Get Lit is a non-profit in Los Angeles designed to ignite young people through the power of literacy and spoken word. Get Lit's mission is to increase literacy, empower youth, and energize communities through poetry, and their programs include in-school and after-school programs, summer camps, competitions, a performance troupe, leadership and job training, and a media content and production studio.

Featuring a performace by saxophonist Sophia Flores. Flores is devoted to the repertoire of developing composers, as well as renowned works of saxophone literature. Sophia is in-pursuit of a Masters of Music in Saxophone Performance at the University of Southern California under the direction of Dr. Jessica Maxfield and has performed a repetoire in honor of Holocaust Remembrance.

A Q/A discussion with the youth poets will follow the program, and copies of I Never Saw Another Butterfly will be available for purchase.
