About
Survive, Then Thrive is a deeply moving memoir by Clare Bursky about her family's journey from Poland to Russia, and then to the United States following the outbreak of World War II in Europe in the 1930’s. The story begins in Poland, where Clare's young parents meet and eventually marry, despite objections from her paternal grandparents. When Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939, the family fled east to Russia, enduring bombings, hunger, and forced labor. Despite immense hardships, including imprisonment in a labor camp, they survived through resilience, resourcefulness, and mutual support.
In this harrowing memoir of survival against all odds, and a beautiful tribute to the Victims of the Holocaust, Clare honors her family's legacy, recounting their struggles, triumphs, and the enduring impact of the Holocaust on their lives. Through wit and wisdom, she shares a deeply personal yet universal story of hope and perseverance.
Clare Bursky was born in Russia near the end of WWII. She retells the family's true stories and recalls the things that happened to her and her family from the age of two. She is the only remaining Holocaust survivor of her family, and is finally able to share their exciting and heartbreaking stories.
