About

Menachem Mendel Beilis (1874-1934) was accused of ritual murder in the Russian Empire in 1911. This two-year saga and trial gained worldwide attention. Even though Beilis was eventually acquitted, this case served as a catalyst for many Jews to leave the Russian Empire. During his incarceration, Beilis maintained that he had the task of clearing the name of Jewish people from the charge of ritual murder. Beilis eventually settled in the United States.

This program will be led by his grandson Jay Beilis, who will share the story from the perspective of his family history, as well as the greater context of blood libel.
